You get a strange feeling when you're about to leave a place, I told him, like you'll not only miss the people you love but you'll miss the person you are now at this time and this place, because you'll never be this way ever again.

- Azar NafisiReading Lolita in Tehran

Brianna Barriga-Sardinas is currently an English major with a minor in Feminist Studies in her fourth and final year at UCSB. Originally from Tujunga, California in the San Fernando Valley, she has possessed a passion for reading and writing poetry and fiction from a young age that easily led her to a journey as an English major. She also has a love for animals, due to her mother’s work in the field of veterinary medicine, and back in the valley has a handful of cats and dogs whom she misses very much while away at school.

Her previous work experience is not very extensive but existent nonetheless. For many years she has acted as a caregiver to children in order to aid both them and their busy mothers. For a brief time in her third year at UCSB, she gained experience as a cashier at the local Kmart where she learned just how “joyous” retail service can be. Currently, she is focusing on her studies while considering part-time jobs in the area.

During her time at UCSB, she has earned some new skills and interests. Some of these skills include a more extensive knowledge and practice of the Spanish language, some experience with html and web pages, and more experience with Microsoft Excel. Taking particular English electives has sparked more interest in literature combined with the environment/environmental issues, as well as in slam poetry/spoken-word poetry. For the rest of her time here at UCSB, she hopes to continue gaining more skills and interests from the exciting classes, professors, and people who have helped to make her undergraduate experience truly great.
